Need Hotel Recommendation for 4 Nights in Sorrento

Can anybody recommend a nice hotel, B&B or guesthouse in Sorrento? My wife and I need to book a nice place for 4 nights, not too expensive and would like to be within walking distance of the city and bus stop.

I stayed at Il Nido in Sorrento. It was reasonable with a wonderful restaurant. It is comfortable, very clean but nothing fancy. They have a very convenient free shuttle to the town as it is not in walking distance but up a hill. If I remember correctly, maybe several km away.
I have heard the Ulisse is a great, place to stay. From what I understand, it is not really a hostel, but there is some legal technicality and the name stuck.

Hotel Settimo Cielo, up the hill within walking distance of town, is perfect. The hotel is perched on the cliff above Marina Grande. The rooms are basic but the views across the bay are more than beautiful. Many have tiny balconies. Large breakfast room and deck, again with gorgeous views.....Check it out.

The Ulisse is a good budget choice. It was/is classified as a hostel to get around planning restrictions at the time it was built and, in a typical Italian compromise, does in fact have a couple or so dorm rooms! Ask the hotel about the best/shortest routes to and from the town centre.

When are you going? I ask because a number of the super swanky hotels in the middle of town have really good off season rates...I've stayed at the Antiche Mura in March very reasonably and there is no way I could afford it during summer! Otherwise I second the Ulisse...it says it's a hostel b/c it offers that service but the private rooms are just like hotel rooms. Ours had a huge bathroom to boot. Easy walk to city center...right at the end of the main tourist area...plus quick buses to Marina Grande for seafood!

We stayed at the luxury Ambasciatori (on Rick's list!), which might be above your budget. But the (extra price) balcony view straight across the water to Vesuvius was worth the money. You are going to have to be flexible, because Sorrento is heavily booked all year round. Make a long list as you prepare to make a selection, because many of them will be gone already. That bus can be very, very crowded.

Ambasciatori is at the far range of (no luggage ... ) walking to the Circumvesuviana train and the SITA bus stop. But we usually ate downtown, and walked back to the hotel in the (warm May) evening. Although we were very happy with our selection of Sorrento (for daytrip transportation reasons, as is how I interpret your "bus stop" notation), the city is not as "charming" as much of Northern Italy, or perhaps the steeply stepped cities of the Amalfi Coast. I'm saying there's an air of NJ, Cape Cod, or Delaware seaside resorts, with Italian flavor. My point is that the view is worth paying for, if you can afford it.

Google Maps may be helpful to you. Click the pedestrian icon.

I will also recommend Il Nido in Sorrento. Little bit out of the town - but they provide free hourly shuttle both ways. Plus their restaurant has great views overlooking the bay if you choose to dine their. We stayed their in May, 2014. Had booked a large room for 4 people. When we reached they did not have that -- but were kind enough to provide us with 2 interconnected rooms at the same price.

We stayed at Palazzo Montefusco Relais last year & absolutely loved it. It is right off the main piazza but on a pedestrian only street & it was close to public transit, restaurants, etc. The staff went out of their way to accommodate every need & the rooms are modern but comfortable & extremely clean! The room rate includes breakfast & they have a nice buffet spread every morning complete with a different homemade cake each day. We would definitely stay there again. Have a great trip!

We stayed at the Ulisse in early September. Great location with a short walk to the primary street in town. The room was great and the staff very helpful. Next time we are in Sorrento we will stay there again.

Palazzo Tasso, via Santa Maria della Pieta is central and not too expensive. Read tripadvisor reviews and search google maps. Happy travels.
