Need help with transportation around Milan, Lake Como, on to Switzerland

I will be stopping in Milan for a few hours to see the Last Supper and a few sites, and then on to Lake Como (Cadenabbia) for one night, and then into Switzerland, where I have a rail pass.

  1. Does a train go from Milan Centrale to Varenna? I'd like to check my bags at the Milan train station while we're sightseeing, but want to make sure I'm going to be leaving Milan from the same station.

  2. I can take a ferry from Varenna to Cadenabbia (just south of Menaggio on the western shore of Lake Como). How often do the ferries run? When is the last ferry? What is the approximate cost?

  3. The next day, I will only need to get to a border town (or maybe Lugano) on an Italian train fare, and then I can begin using my Swiss rail pass (to get to Murren). Any suggestions on the best way to get out of Cadenabbia and up to the Swiss border?

Thanks for your help!

Question #1. A train goes from Milan to Varenna, Rick's book gives detailed instructions.

Question #2: That distance the fare is not expensive.

Question #3. Have not done your exact route but have gone from Menaggio to Como (town of Como) by hydrofoil (part of the public ferry system), at Como there is a train station that connects to Switzerland.
