I think the itinerary looks fine. The only thing I would suggest changing is starting your trip in Rome. I understand you fly into Rome but you also fly out of Rome. If it were me, I would end my trip in Rome. Chances are you are going to spending a night in Rome before your flight departs and I think that means you are wasting a Travel day going back to Rome the day before you leave. If it were me I would probably just spend my first day in Rome when I arrive and then very early the next morning head to Venice and then work me way back to Rome.
I also would suggest leaving Rome until the end.Maybe start in Orvieto, which is a nice hour train ride from Rome, is a neat city and on the way to Florence or the CT>Rome is a very intense city where walking a lot is required and it is better to do it without jetlag.
Thank you all for your advice. I think that saving Rome until the end of our trip does sound like a good idea!
Thanks again, Mary
The point of putting rome at the end is to avoid staying a lone single night in rome before departure. In effect burning a sightseeing day.
Staying the first night in Rome does basically the same thing. It sort of wastes a day.
So immediately depart Rome on arrival. I'd suggest going to Venice and backtracking back to rome for departure.
there is a Eurostar that leaves Rome for Venice at 12:45, 13:45 and 14:45. the trip takes about 3 1/2 hours. So even if you leave at 14:45 you'll be there before dinner.
Stay in Venice 3 nights, then train to Florence for 3 nights. Train to the CT for 2 nights, then on towards Rome for the final nights. that would leave you 6 nights for rome sorrento etc.
Took everyones advice and here is what I came up with: Land in Rome and stay first night. Two or Three nights(Please help with this) in Sorrento ( visit Pompeii and Amalfi). Eruostar up to Venice and stay two nights. On to Florence for three nights with a day trip to Siena. Then to CT for two nights..and on to Rome for our final two days. What do you think? I wanted to fit Orvieto in...maybe on the way back to Rome?
Thank you so much again, Mary
Thanks Ron! That is exactly what we will do! Any good hotel recommondation or staying in a certain location in the cities?
Thanks again!
We always like to stay in apartments in Venice. Have used this agency in the past with good results.
they have several units available in your time frame from around 100 euros per night and up. there were two bedrooms available in that price range.
