Need help with 2 hotels in Rome

I always read the forums before going abroad and have gotten lots of good tips and information. Now, I need some help.
My husband and I are going to Rome for a week in June (I know that it's more expensive then but that's when we have vacation time.) We found some good deals for flight and hotel combined but we have to close the deal now to get the price. The two hotels that we are considering are Trevi Hotel (near the Fountain but on a quiet side street) and Hotel Gabriella near the Termini and the University (naturally cheaper). Both hotels got really good ratings and recommendations on Trip Advisor.
Has anyone stayed at these hotels?
We've read that the Termini area could be unsafe at night and we are night people - we like to stay out late and go out to performances, clubs etc... I also read that there are parts of the Termini neighborhood that are quite safe. I'd like to get some feedback about this problem. Not being in the historic center doesn't bother us that much because we are great walkers and the Termini area has all the transportation links.

Haven't used either hotel. Over four visits we have spent of a total of about three weeks all in the
Termini area with absolutely no problems or concerns but have not been out much later than midnight or so. We stay in the immediate area south around the Opera house (towards the Vatican side) of Termini and felt as safe there as anywhere else. Have no experience with other areas around Termini.

Ahlan, Taltul.

Last month I stayed at a 2-star hotel just off via Nazionale, recommended by friends from Ramat Gan who stayed there last year. Check it out before you make a decision. Hotel Italia, via Venezia 18. It's about a 10 minute walk from Termini (6 euros by taxi with luggage). Very clean and comfy (though breakfast was nothing to write home about), supermarket across the street, 5 minutes to the metro, walking distance to a lot of the major sites. I was solo and never felt uncomfortable.

If you want, send me a PM and I'll give you more details.

Taltul,

I've stayed in the Termini area in the past, and will be again this spring, and I have no reservations or concerns about the area being "unsafe at night". I've found that evenings are usually quite active, with lots of people around and sidewalk cafés busy. I'm sure there are neighborhoods that are a bit dodgy, but I frequently wander about alone in the Termini area, and so far haven't had any problems.

One point to mention though - be vigilant if you're wandering about Termini station at night, as there's still the possibility of petty crime. Wear a Money Belt! Termini has a fairly substantial Police presence including Carabinieri, so it's usually quite safe.

I'm not familiar with the two Hotels you mentioned, so can't offer any first hand comments.

Happy travels!

We've stayed in the Termini area several times with no problems. I'm not familiar with the Gabriella, but their website is: www.gabriellahotel.it so you can check it out.

The Termimi area of Rome is not dangerous I have stayed many times and have arrived back at the hotel late at night (and that was walking)
