I'am taking a cruise in 2008 with Celebrity I have to get transportation to the cruise docks can anyone give me any recommmaations. Alo what airport is closet to Civitavecchia and how farn is it form either airport and the center of Rome near the Spanish Steps
(1)we have done this already several times, and will be doing so again in a few days. Take the train to Civitavecchia from Roma Termini (the main train station). It takes about one hour. When you exit the Civitavecchia station, get a taxi or walk the three long blocks across the street to your right. You'll see what looks like a fort in the distance. That is the entrance to the port, where you take a free shuttle bus to your ship. (2)Fiumicino, also called Leonardo da Vinci, airport is closest to Rome - connected by a shuttle train (about 1/2 hour). Then taxi to your hotel about ten minutes.
A couple of additions. The walk to the port entrance is about a mile. Also a bus will take you from the train station to the port entrance for 1E. The train runs about every 20 minutes from Rome and can take between 45 min and 1 hr and 15 depending on the number of stops. A 2nd class ticket this summer was 4.5E. Buy a round trip ticket from Rome that way you do not have to buy a ticket for the return. When the ship unloads the line to buy tickets can be long.
Also on the return from Civitavecchia back to Fiumucino (airport). How would I get to airport by train. Also does anyone know how far the other airport is to Rome?
We went to Europe this summer and followed the instructions on this website. It had maps, pictures and some step by step details
Check it out.

The center point of your questions is the Rome Termini train station. The trains run from Rome Termini to either Civitavecchia or the FCO airport. There is no train system directly between Civitavecchia and the airport. However, there is private transportation between the two. If you have a group of 4 or so, it may be cost effective to limo between the two. For two or less people, it's not cost effective but it's still an option.
