Need help please

Planning a trip to Italy in May and need help with the details.
We will be arriving in Rome around 8am and planning to take a train to Florence. Should we buy tickets ahead of time or when we arrive at the train station. What is the best way to get to the train station from the Airport?

We will be staying in Florence for several days and will be renting a car to travel to Tuscany. Where is the best place to rent a car in Florence and any suggestions on how to book the car is appreciated.
In Tuscany we were planning to spend 4 nights in San Gimignano then go on to Rome. Our plans were to take the car back to Florence and a train to Rome. We also want to see Montalcino. Should we split our time between San Gimignano and Montalcino and then drive to Rome?

Lastly we would like recommendations of tour guides in Rome for the Forum and Palatine Hill. Is it worth the extra money for a private tour guide?

Thank you so much for any information you can supply

I agree, 4 nights in San G is a bit too much. You will certainly get bored. I'm guessing you are using that as a starting point to explore the Tuscany region, if that's the fact, then OK. Not a lot of places to eat there...it's a darn small town. Maybe split your time a bit, stay Siena for 2 nights and San G for the other 2?
Just an opinion.... Have a wonderful journey! I'm jealous, we aren't going back to Italy this year!!
