Here is some interesting chatter about Italian air strikes on another forum:

The author seems like a subject matter expert, although I would still check with my airline:
I wish these alarmist travel sites would provide some important details about the laws regarding transportation strikes when they announce upcoming strikes.
In the event of an air strike, certain flights are protected and will not be cancelled. These include:
All departing flights between 7 and 10 AM and between 6 and 9 PM.
All departing intercontinental flights, except those to Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Turkey
At least one daily arriving and departing flight to each destination in the Italian islands.
This is from the following official document, Section 4.5, page 7:
enac.gov.it/repository/ContentManagement/inf…
Thus all flights to North and South America, to Asia, and to Africa, with the exception of the four Mediterranean countries listed, will take off as scheduled.
Also, arriving flights from outside Italy are never affected, for obvious reasons.
Here is the official calendar of upcoming transportation strikes.

You can filter it (Filtra per settore) to show just air strikes (aereo) or train strikes (ferroviario). As already stated, strikes are often called off, so watch this page for updates. You can get a decent translation by pasting the URL into translate.google.com .
