Retired and needing a bailout. Budget about $2,300 U.S.
Am I dilusional? Happy Trail's Gary
Budget is tight but probably doable farther away from Piazza San Marco.
I think the bigger problem is the large block of time on such short notice, only about a month in advance if this year.
So hit the keyboard and the mouse.
I'd also suggest emailing the agencies directly with your needs and see what they have available that might not be on the websites.
You can try vrbo.com, but I don't know if you can get such a discount. Good luck
You likely have waited too long, assuming you mean this September. If you're willing to stay on the Lido instead, you can do it for that amount at the Hotel Helvetia. While it doesn't have the same charm as staying on the island, at least you're just a waterbus ride away. But I see that they are completely booked for a couple of days in your time period.
So, yes, you're delusional. :-)
Gary-don't give up. Perhaps you can stay two weeks instead of a month. Or you can find someone to share expenses. I'm a big budget traveller but I find other ways to cut cost usually not on lodging. Since you're retired perhaps you can go at a later date. Good Luck. If you find lodging let us all know.
Since you have waited until almost the last minute it may be hard to find a vacancy for such a long period. If you can't find something for the entire month, you might want to consider more than one location in Venice. For example, if there were two weeks available in one apartment and two weeks in another you could rent both. If there were a couple of days between the rentals you could stay at a B&B or something for that time. It would not be ideal to have to move, but at least you would be in Venice. Just a suggestion....
If you strikeout out in Venice which is likely you may look into adjacent town of Mestre. All accessibile by public bus minutes from Venice train station. When my budget has been tight or I have a car I stay in Mestre and go into Venice easily daily.
