Hi - I am new to this forum and have searched for but not found an answer to my question. We will be staying in Vernazza for 4 nights mid-Sept. We have 2 options for accommodation: one has an included breakfast on a terrace, but with only a fan, and one with air conditioning and no breakfast included; otherwise, they seem very comparable. Please help us decide which would be most appropriate option. Thanks!
Select the one w/ AC and take your breakfasts (dinners too!) at Il Pirata, just above the train station.
Be sure to visit the other towns in the Cinque Terre, either via hiking/walking or train, or a combination of the two. Have fun!
We were there last year in late September for 3 nights, and although our suite offered air conditioning, we did not use it. We were entirely comfortable, keeping in mind that we had opening double doors right next to our bed to catch the wonderful breezes.
Here is where we stayed:

Chances are you will not need it but you would need to know the weather forecast in advance to know for sure.
Sometimes that time of year is hot and other times not so really could go either way.
Personally I think I would be fine with fans provided I had some sort of terrace and the location seemed like it would catch a breeze. If it was a location inside a building next to the train station with no outdoor access other than the front door, I would probably insist on AC to stay there for cooling reasons and also to drown out the sounds of the train.
The caveat to lodging in Vernazza is those places with the best views and seaside terraces will also have the most steps and be the most difficult to access.
You can look at weather.com and look at the historic info.
for Sept 2016, from the 1st to the 14th, the daily range was 82/66--- from the 15th to 30th it was 75/60
Depends what "mid Sept" is and what you find comfortable for sleeping
Thank-you for all your replies - we will stick with the unit that has air conditioning; don't want to have 4 nights of not sleeping if it is hot during our stay; sounds like there are lots of options to get breakfast.
I doubt you'll need A/C at night on the coast. Open the windows and you'll be fine.
patty,
I normally travel in September and that time of year can still be hot! There have been numerous occasions when I've returned to my hotel in Monterosso in the mid-afternoon, and have been eternally thankful that I had good A/C! I would definitely recommend A/C. Even on the coast it can also be "muggy" at night, which makes it difficult to sleep.
