Need air conditioning in Siena hotel in summer?

We will be in Siena next summer in late June and early July. We are thinking of staying at the Albergo Bernini, but notice that it does not have air conditioning. Has anyone stayed here during the summer and if so, was it adequate to sleep at night without air conditioning? If not, we were thinking maybe Hotel Villa Elda or Hotel Villa Liberty since they have air conditioning, but they don't seem to be recommended as highly. Anyone stayed at either of these? Thanks!

Normally I always have air cond for july thru late Aug. trips in Siena and Tuscany. But you may just squeak by w/o a prob. late June.It maybe a safer bet tho if the heat gets you down. July 2 is Palio a huge festival in Siena and very crowded, so beware and book soon.

Thanks for your feedback. I was also hoping to hear from people who may have stayed at this particular place in the summer months and whether it was bearable. It looks like a great place, just hate to not be able to sleep due to the heat. Other thoughts?

I'd stay at a place with a/c. Keep in mind that the street noise may be too loud to allow you to sleep with the windows open.

Agree with the other posters: a/c is a big plus for that part of Italy in late June-early July. It can be really sticky in hotel rooms at night. And in Siena, the street noise can be such that you want the option of being able to close your window (got a feeling you'll be glad you have the A/C).

You do not need air conditioning during the summer - most of the buildings were built to remain cool during the hot months. It is usually hot during the summer - dry heat and cools down considerably at night - Open up the windows and enjoy that delicious air!

Jeff,

We were in Siena in mid-July, 07. It was very hot every where we visited. However, we stayed at Palazzo Bruchi B&B. No air, but they had a good fan. Our room was well off the street overlooking a lovely courtyard with a view of the countryside. We were able to open the windows, matchstick blinds allowed air in, but kept insects out. Sleeping was comfortable. Guests are provided snacks in the room, you fix your own breakfast in a kitchen down the hall.
