I am taking a speed train from Firenze SMN to Napoli and staying in Sorrento for 3 nights. I would like to stop in Cassino to meet a rep from Angel Research who is helping locate relatives and to show us where my mother and grandmother lived.
I was told it will be a 4.5-5hr on a regional train. (guess there are quite a few stops) Is this accurate? I could leave at 5am to get there between 9:30-10am.

It is a couple of hours from Napoli to Cassino with trains at 06:06, 7:50, and later. You can research this at www.Trenitalia.com. But you have to get to Napoli from Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana, which is an hour. You can leave Sorrento at 6:35 and arrive Napoli Centrale at 07:31 so the 7:50 to Cassino would work for you. Schedule for Circumvesuviana here.
The trip from Cassino to Roma, also to be researched at the Trenitalia site, is a couple of hours and there are several trains in the afternoon and evening.
