Need advice for evening arrival to Cinque Terre by car

Hi all,

My new bride and I will be driving from Zermatt, Switzerland to somewhere in the Cinque Terre this August. We're doing the drive in one day (I'm guesstimating it will take about 7 hours). We want to park the car somewhere and stay for two or three nights once we get to the Cinque Terre.

Where should we plan on parking our car during that time?

Also, any recommendations for lodging would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Not a good idea to take a car to the CT unless you absolutely have to or you book a hotel with their own parking lot (there are a few). With very limited exceptions (the few hotels with their own parking lots), tourist cars are not permitted in the CT. However, there are two parking lots - one above Riomaggiore and one above Monterosso. Reportedly, there is a 3rd on above Vernazza but it may be the Monterosso one. These lots are not that big. During the busy season, these lots fill up and they often close off the roads to these lots (says so at www.cinqueterreonline.com). The closest place to leave your car is La Spezia or there are two lots in Levanto (shown is RS' book) but these can fill up as well.

David: We stayed at a lovely B&B in Monterosso which had parking available. Just make sure you ask for a room with its own bathroom and make sure you tell Marisa you will need parking. Here is the website: www.bed-and-breakfast-marisa.it.

David,
Hotel Steno in Monterossa is great. It is in the Rick Steves book. They have a small parking area.
I think they also own Hotel Pasquale. Not sure about their parking because they are on the beach. Anyway, put Hotel Steno in Google and I think it will bring up the other hotel too.

I'll check on those recommendations. Right now I'm also looking at a couple of B&Bs that ranked very highly on Tripadvisor.com.

Any further recommendations would also be appreciated!
