Need Advice About Hertz Car Rental in Italy

I reserved a car to drive in Tuscany/Umbria from Hertz. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding whether to purchase and what type of additional insurance at the time I pick up the car? My carrier in the U.S. does not cover foreign rentals.

As always, THANK YOU in advance. Participants in this forum have been so helpful.

You don't necessarily have to buy any extra coverage, as it depends on your personal attitude toward risk. Your maximum exposure depends on the car and company, but is often about 1,000-1,200 Euro as all Italian rentals have coverage above the deductible. Check the coverage on your credit card. All US Visa cards offer basic car rental coverage including in Italy, and some offer primary coverage. https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/card-benefits/consumer-auto-rental-collision-damage-waiver.html

Government regulations in Italy require renters to purchase CDW from the rental companies. The good news is that the CDW is much more reasonably priced than in other countries, including the U.S.
My credit card terms do not include coverage in a few p!aces, including Italy and Ireland.

On the occasions we rented cars in Italy, we wanted a risk free, walk-away experience so we got “super coverage” from Hertz. No deductible and no hassles were worth it.

I have two Hertz rentals in Italy with $0 deductible super coverage booked this fall. I arranged both through AutoEurope. The savings on both the rental and particularly the insurance coverage were very substantial when compared to same bookings directly through Hertz.

I'll be renting with a zero deductable from Auto Europe (Hertz) in May at Florence airport. I wanted to get the super CDW insurance from Hertz directly but it was absurdly expensive.

Does anyone know if Hertz will put a large hold on my credit card since I won't be getting insurance directly from them?

Not recommending to go with car to Mantova center ... be expected to get number of tickets after few month for " entering zone without permit " for 80-100 euro each ... more then that second ticket may be just few minutes from first one.

Thanks to everyone who responded. The rental rate I obtained through HERTZ included CDW and theft protection with a 300 Euro deductible. None of the other rental consolidators recommended offered cars for pick up in Florence and drop off in Perugia.

FYI HolidayAutos.com is a good source for rental, and did offer the same pickup/drop-off locations but the price was significantly more expensive than booking directly through HERTZ.
