need a 'skip the lines' ticket for St. Peters Basilica?

Hi - in my research I have found that St. Peter's Basilica is free, but I have also seen tickets to skip the line? Is there usually a long line there? Is it worth getting some tickets? Does it cost to climb the dome? Thanks so much for your advice :).

The basilica is free and there are no tickets for it. Some companies will sell tours that include skip the line but these tours include the museums, and those are the lines you're skipping. The line for the basilica is for the security check and there is no way to skip it. The line can be long but it moves quickly. It's usually less than 15 minutes.

It costs to climb the dome and to take the elevator.

I wonder if you saw information for the Vatican museum. You can buy tickets for a specific entrance time and therefore don't wait in the long line to enter the museum. In my opinion it is well worth the cost. As previously stated there is no cost for the basilica however there is security line. Enjoy your trip

Will all the kids do each of these or will one of you wait outside with some of them?

Particularly, in the Vatican Museums the crowds can be so intense that keeping track of 7 small children may be a challenge.
