need a place to stay near Segesta, Sicily for 3 nights

Oh dear, I thought I had it all locked down with an agriturismo in Segesta (will have a rental car), but there was some kind of mixup with the deposit using PayPal and the agriturismo cancelled and PP returned my money. I'm planning on three nights in the area, with day trips to the Zingaro Reserve, Selinunte, Erice and Trapani, as well as Segesta's temple. It just hit me that I'll be there in 3 short weeks.

Suggestions, please!

Hoping to stay in the range of €50-70.

Castellamare del Golfo. Good coastal location, especially since you'll have a car. Booking.com has lots in your price range. I haven't been there in a long time so can't recommend a particular hotel.

Thanks. I've found several through booking.com that look good and are in my price range. I am much relieved. Right now, there seems to be a lot of availability on the western side, much less around Syracuse, only a day or two later. I guess I know where the crowds will be :-)

A friend recommended Pensione Tranchina in Scopello. We didn't stay there but checked it out when were were in Scopello a couple of years ago. It's 2 km from the Zingaro Nature Reserve and in a lovely setting. I'd love to return to Scopello and If we do, I'd stay there. I think it would be a good base for visiting the places you listed.

How's your Italian? I visited the beautiful Villa Antonella Azienda Agriturista. Their English is very limited, but the property is beautiful and the family is lovely. They're close to Etna.

Hi Chani,

We found Casolare Nelle Saline on Booking.com for our trip to Sicily this past fall and loved it. The homemade breakfast spread was stupendous and the property was tranquil (and they have a puppy). From there we easily drove to Zingaro Reserve (fantastic, fantasitic place), Erice (not worth the time, in my opinion, as we found it to be "spoon-fed tourism" and there are so many off the beaten track places in Sicily that were more worthwhile), and Trapani (wish we had more time there).

The only downside (which is also an upside) to Casolare Nelle Saline is there is nothing walking distance around it, really, as it's in the middle of the salt pan area. So it is quiet and lovely, but you do have to use the car at night for dinner.

Hope you find Sicily to be as outstanding as we did!
