Need a hotel in Rome for 2nights in Early June

Just booked a cruise out of Athens. We are flying into Rome for 2 full days before we fly to Athens. No research yet because this just happened. Will order Rick’s book today. My wife and I need a hotel with AC and an elevator. Would love to be near the sites or transportation to the sites. Don’t want the highest place in town. Thanks for your help in advance.

Rome has rather widely-scattered sights, so I don't think there's one clear best location that applies to all visitors. You will have very little time, so you'll need to prioritize your sightseeing. Will you be going to St. Peter's and the Vatican Museums (including the Sistine Chapel)? That will chew up a large chunk of a day. The Colosseum/Forum combination will also be time consuming. Those sights are not particularly close toghether, and the Borghese Gallery is in yet a different part of the city. If you can give us any guidance on how you might want to spend your time, it will help in pinpointing a convenient location for you.

We all have different interpretations of "not the highest place in town". You'll get more useful responses if you give us your nightly hotel budget in euros. I'm assuming you need a double room, correct?

For us, Hotel Sonya across from the Opera House is our go to hotel for your situation. Easy access, couple of blocks to Termini, with some good local restaurants in the area. Kind of on the edge of the main tourist areas but a lot of buses and trams end at Termini so it is handy for getting around. Hotel Aberdeen is also in the same area.

We have both been there years ago. She wants to see Saint Peters and the Vatican and the next day the coliseum and the forum. If we have time the Trevi fountain. 150 euros or so. Thanks for your help

I loved Hotel Lancelot. You can walk to the Colosseum and Forum and the subway stop at the Colosseum will take you to Vatican City. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance, also. You don't mention when you'll be there, so depending on timing, the price may or may not be in your range.
