Need a good base to stay in Tuscany

I am sure this topic has been discussed multiple times. I searched the archives but did not find answers I was looking for.
I am looking for a good base location in Tuscany. We are going to get a car in Lucca and then travel for next 5 days. So if you know a place to stay, a nice B&B or Agroturismo please let me know.
Thank you!!!!!

Where will you be looking to visit? If you're planning on visiting towns in Tuscany and Umbria, I would recommend staying in Cortona. It has an excellent central location and it's a unique hilltown in itself, very worthy of basing your stay.

Enjoy your travels!

Do you have specific places you plan to visit, or will you pick the place to stay and then plan your visits around it? Cortona is very nice, but may or may not be the right choice depending upon your itinerary.

Also, it's almost always helpful to include the time of year when you'll be in Italy. It can influence the responses.

Love Naturae Salute Agroturismo outside San Gimignano ~ going back again in September

If you are going to be visiting Umbria too, Locanda Rosati is a nice spot - outside Orvieto. It is easy to access many of the back roads and the autostrada. http://www.locandarosati.it/

We enjoyed the drive from there to Montepulciano one day. It was July and the sunflowers were incredible.

Safe travels!

We will be coming down from Cinque Terre and will be in the region first week of October. It will be our first time in Tuscany. The idea is to visit towns such as Lucca, Pisa, Sienna, San Gimingnano, Voltera. Maybe down south to Montachino. We have a week.

Based on the towns you plan to visit, a place in or around Siena would be a good choice. San Gimignano area would also work. I prefer to stay at small in-town hotels (e.g. Albergo Bernini in Siena), but there have been Siena-area agriturismo and B&Bs recommended in past postings. I'm sure people will start posting recommendations, but you'll also find some by doing a search.

I recommend staying in/near Siena. We stayed at Agriturismo Marciano last September & had a fantastic time. The agriturismo experience was really neat & Siena proved to be a great base from which to explore Volterra, San Gimignano, Pienza, Montepulciano, etc. Have a great trip.

Sounds like we are doing the same trip. We are traveling Oct. 8-20. We arrive in the Cinque Terre on the 11th then to Tuscany on the 15th. We are staying at an agritourismo near San Gimignano called Poggetto di San Gimignana (www.poggettodisangimignan.it). They have another apartment as well that is linked from the above address. It is very reasonable and they have been very easy to schedule with using the internet. It is cash only but you can reserve with a cc.

Borgo San Luigi in Montiggeroni. Stayed there last week. Nice pool, good breakfast, central location to Siena, San Gimagnano and Florence. Try the Tratoria in close-by Scorgiano.

We just returned last week from 23 days in Italy. We spent a week in Tuscany, staying at La Falconara (agriturismo) which is located in Montepulciano. It was absolutely beautiful. The owner, Alex, and his wife Ingrid, made us feel as if we were family. Alex's recommendations for sightseeing and restuarants were "spot-on". Already planning our next trip back to Italy in two years, and it will include another stay at La Falconara! His website is www.lafalconara.it
