Some experiences have taught me (like booking a cheap hotel near the Stadium in Philadelphia) that advance info about neighborhoods is very important. Are there any Metro station areas I should avoid in Milan? I am going to La Scala and will be returning to my hotel late, so I want to be safe, but the Central Milan hotels seem to be extremely high.
I see a hotel near the San Siro stadium for $46!! and one near the March Metro Stn LIne 5 for $43. I would most like to be near the Milano N. Cadorna station if anyone knows of a cheap, clean place to recommend there.
Suggestions? I want to be able to walk or get a quick cheap ride to the Metro early the next morning to get to Malpensa. Thanks! :)
There is an Inter Milano match at San Siro Sunday May 8, so it could be lively if you were getting in then.
Marche would be more convenient. Here is the Milan Metro/S-train map:

If you are looking at the Hotel Gala, the Marche Metro is literally 20 feet from the hotel entrance.
My family has stayed twice at Hotel Club or Club Hotel a few blocks and a 10 minute walk from the Central Train Station. There is a great Kabab place on the other side of the station about a 15 minute walk.
The neighborhood was not spotless but did not seem unsafe.
Hotel Garda is a few minutes' walk from Milano Centrale. There is a metro entrance just outside the train station, as well as inside access to it. Get breakfast at VyTa inside the station.
