I've signed up for Rick's "Best of Sicily" tour in April 2025. Since it's not included in the tour I was planning on spending some free time visiting the Neapolis Archeological Park and wondered if there is any way to buy admission tickets on-line (to avoid waiting in line - although this may not be an issue in April ??)
If anyone has visited the Park recently I'd appreciate any info you can provide.
I visited in September of 2021. Crowds were certainly down as it was the tail end of Covid, but still, I did not get the impression that the park is heavily visited, and it is large enough that crowding or limiting entry is not an issue. I was able to just walk up, buy my ticket, and wander in. At that time they had established a "one way path" through the park, hitting the major sights, I suppose as a Covid measure, not sure if that is still the case.
I do not see an option for advance tickets on their site, I do not think you would need them anyway.
I visited the Neapolis Archaeological Park a while back, and honestly, it wasn’t too crowded. I just walked up, bought a ticket, and went right in without any issues. April should be pretty quiet too, so I wouldn’t stress about waiting in line. From what I’ve seen, they don’t offer online tickets, but it’s such a smooth process on-site that it’s not really necessary. You’ll love it—plenty of space to explore at your own pace.
We were there in early May ‘23 and walked right in.
No crowds even though there were big tour buses parked in the lot.
There did seem to be many groups of school kids and teens everywhere we went in Sicily though, perhaps school trips are a thing at that time of year?
None of them paying the slightest bit of attention to the teachers with them!
A big group of misbehaving shouting pre-teens in the Ear of Dionysus….we asked their frazzled teacher if she could please control them and she moved them along and away.
Thanks everybody - looking forward to seeing sicily
Hello,
When we went March of 2024, also no line to worry about. However, there is a combo ticket for the Archeological Park and the Paulo Orsi Museum, so you might want that option.
At that point of the tour, you may be interested in the museum rather than another outside ruins. Or you might be interested in the Catacombs di San Giovanni. We were not on the tour so we managed to see all three. Really enjoyed each of them. If I had to pick just one, I would choose the Paulo Orsi, but I do like a good museum. :)
One thing to check is the opening hours for each sight. The hours and days are a little different when I check the website today versus when we were there, but the museum is open later than the park.
Happy to answer any questions. You will have a great trip. We really liked Sicily.
What ever you choose, Enjoy!
