Nature excursions from Ravenna, etc.

I'm filling in details for an end-of-the year trip to Orvieto (4 nights), Siena (5), Ravenna (4), and Venice (2). It will be my third time in Venice, but the rest are all new to me. I would really like to explore the Po Delta Park or similar area, and get in some birdwatching, but am not sure of the best way to do this solo and without a car. Any thoughts? Also, was planning to walk out into the countryside from Siena, and hope to hear of others' experiences. Thanks!

That Po Delta area looks great. I've not been there, but looking on Birdingpals there is a person, Marco Valtriani, who lists the Po Delta among his comfort zones. Birdingpals seems like a good strategy since your "pal" will have transportation; probably there are pro guides around too, though that would cost a bit. A great way to see a lot of birds, though.

Thanks, Joel! That's some fine info. I see that Marco Valtriani is an ornithologist and pro guide - looks very promising.
