I’m not going to Italy this year, but I have the Trenìt app on my IPad.
It just sent me a notification that there will be a rail strike from 21:00 Sunday Sept 21st until 21:00 Monday Sept 22nd.
For Trenitalia, Italo, Trenord and Tper.

Usually some of the high speed services still run during strikes, but best to check.

Looks like I'm going to get caught up in this as I am on a cruise that disembarks in Trieste on Monday, Sept. 22. Good thing I decided to get a transfer from the ship to VCE - in fact, I heard about this from the agent at the Shore Excursions desk who I was dealing with. I have two nights in Venice post-cruise, will make my way to the city from Marco Polo.
