I'm wondering if the National Museum of Rome is worth going to or should be skipped? Thank You,
Sue
skip it unless you are keen on Roman history, or you saw "I Claudius" and you would like to see actual rooms from those protagonists including the mosaics and wall apintings, and loads of other amazing mosaics, or statues or tons of other stuff. I discovered it by accident and it is now one of my favourite museums, especially the top floor.
It completely depends on your interests. Nigel describes the main museum (the Palazzo Massimo) very well. I went on my own last year and really enjoyed it. (I was a huge "I, Claudius" fan.) The reconstructed Roman rooms are amazing. It is not a particularly popular museum, however, probably because there's so much competing with it. I often had whole rooms all to myself for long periods of time. And that was in late May. Here are some photos and a video clip from my visit there, in case you're interested: National Museum of Rome
I agree that it depends on your interests. It consists of 3 different museums so check each out to see if you find them interesting or not. If not, give them a pass. If so, find the time to visit them. Baths of Diocletian & Octagonal Hall Palazzo Massimo Palazzo Altemps Donna
Thanks so much...oh my gosh...it looks really cool!!
