Nat'l Arch. Museum distance from train station plus itinerary

How far is the National Archeological Museum in Naples from the Circumvesuviana Train Station? I think I can take the EuroStar from Termini. Is there an early Eurostar train? Also, I am a bit confused: Is the Eurostar the same thing as the Express train? Is it better to take a taxi or bus to the museum from the train station? Or, is it walking distance? I was thinking to: Day 1 -- leave Rome after the VFR tour and take an early EuroStar to Naples --tour the museum in Naples -- take Circumvesuviana to tour Pompeii -- after touring Pompeii, take train to Sorrento and spend the night Day 2 --travel to Positano by bus and check around there a bit -- come back to Sorrento by boat, check around Sorrento and spend the night Day 3 -- travel either to Naples or Rome to catch the flight back to the U.S. (I was thinking that the Natl'l Arch. Museum in Naples tour might be too much to include in our itinerary.) Thanks! Ruth

The eurostar is a type of train. It's the high speed train. The Express train is what people usually call the Leonardo Express train that runs between the airport and the termini station. The archeological museum is between two stops. It's about a 10 minute walk to either. Sorry, but I can't remember which two stops it's in the middle of. Personally, I think your itinerary is a little too much. It isn't something that I would do but that's your choice and if you feel comfortable doing it then you should. Donna

You can take the Metro to the museum from the train station. We got off at the Piazza Cavour stop and walked a few minutes to the museum, but I think there is a Museo stop that is closer. You can do this itinerary. The 0900 train arrives at 1010. The museum opens at 1000 so that will work pretty well for you. Or you can take a 0735 and arrive at 0845, giving you time for coffee and pastry (there are some good choices in the train station, beleive it or not) before you tour the museum. The museum takes a good 90 minutes and that is moving fast. Enter at 1000, tour untill 1130, and you can be on the CircV again by 1311 with time for a quick sandwich (try Vyta in the station). At 1346 (current schedule) you would arrive Pompeii Scavi. Pompeii takes 2-3 hours depending on how in-depth you want to go. (A tour guide is a marvelous way to experience the site.) You should be in Sorrento by1800.
