Napoli Centrale to Roma Termini trains

I noticed that Dario posted a recent comment that "Italotreno's walk-up fare from Roma Termini to Naples is usually cheaper than Frecciarossa's," Would that be true going from Naples to Roma Termini? Doing a walkup fare would give us flexibility since we are coming from Sorrento by a morning train but not sure which time. Right now the (advance) fare difference between Trenitalia and Italo is not great (around E 25/person) but the same price Italo fare allows for changes, Trenitalia does not. We would be traveling that route on a Monday, mid-April.
I apologize for the convoluted question...trying to save some $$ but realize something can delay departures/arrivals.
Grazie!

How far is ítalo train in Naples to the ferries for sorrento ?
I’m traveling solo and am wondering if it’s a walk to the ferry from the train or should I take a taxi?

Cggotr, You have hijacked Susan's question and that is a little impolite. Next time post your own question. If you are at the train station why would you want to take a ferry to Sorrento? Just take the Cirumvesuviann -- more convenient, easier, and cheaper, and faster. If you insist on a ferry, then the dock is serviced by a tram from the train station or take a taxi. Too far to walk.

Actually Susan’s (me) question got misdirected. Thanks Christine for the comment but does not answer my question. Maybe I need to post a new differently worded question? Not getting the info I hoped for.
Also, I’ve spent some time on Italo and Trenitalia websites but can’t find walk up fares for my date—April 17. Is that info available or too far out?
Thanks to all, so far a vast amount of help has come my way!

Susan
There isn’t a fare called “walk up”
It would just be the standard fare with no discounts or whatever tickets are left
I see some sold out dates mid April

What is your date? ( never mind, I see it now)

Susan -- there is roughly three levels of fares. Standard fare -- available 24/7. That is often what is referred to as "walk up fare." In other words, when you walk up to the ticket window just prior to departure, that is the fare you pay? The assumption is the standard fare since the expectation is that all of the discount fare will have been sold. For the Italian rail the next two levels of fares is Economy and Super Economy -- Treno is similar. Heavily discounted tickets with lots of restriction -- primarily no refund and no change. The Italian train ticket -- standard -- can be changed and you have 90 minutes after missing a train to get a new ticket.

PS I just check Trenitalia's schedule from Naples -- all kinds of tickets available including Super Econ as low as 26E on the fast trains and half that on the Regional. About three trains an hour.

I wouldn't call it an expectation, Trenitalia doesn't sell Economy and SuperEconomy tickets for trains departing on the same day.

The standard / full / walk-up / on-the-day fare is called Base on trenitalia.com and Flexi on italotreno.it . You can't pay more.

On April 17, trenitalia's Base fare from Rome to Naples in the lowest class is 48 € pp whereas Italotreno's is € 39.90 .

Napoli Centrale is not very close to the port, and the area around the train station sucks. Take a taxi or take the metro to Municipio and then walk from there.

Or just take the circumvesuviana from the train station directly to sorrento

Susan, this is a a classic example of having your question hijacked by someone else. And then you get answer to questions you didn't ask. It is confusing and impolite. You may want to consider deleting your first question, and starting over to eliminate the cross questions and answers.

In your original question, you might give some consideration to using Regionale trains. They offer the maximum flexibility even if they are a little slow. The time difference between Napoli and Rome is only about an hour. We use the Regional trains a lot for the shorter distance simply because you don't have to worry too much about making a fixed schedule. Just get on and go when it is convenient.

Travel times between Roma Centrale and Napoli Centrali:

Frecciarossa direct: 1 hr. 8 min. to 1 hr. 15 min.
Intercity direct: 2 hr. 3 min.
Regional direct: 2 hr. 44 min. to 3 hr. 4 min.

There are some routings that require a change; naturally, they take longer.
