Napoli Centrale area hotel?

We will have one night in Naples next September, while traveling between 2 locations. We will arrive around noon and depart the next day around noon for Rome. I have identified a nice-looking hotel, Palazzo Firenze, a block north of Piazza Garibaldi, the huge piazza in front of the station.

We prefer to walk in cities as much as possible, rather than riding the metro or buses. In reading reviews and blogs about Naples, it seems that whatever seedy reputation the train station area might have had in the past, it has improved considerably. Is this true? There are so many hotels and restaurants around there, I find it hard to imagine it would be a bad area.

Just looking for opinions from others who have been to Naples. I am sure we will go back for a stay someday, but this time is has to be just the one night.

Thanks for your help.

I wanted to suggest booking.com, Naples/Palazzofirenze and then go to reviews, especially location. It is a mixed bag, hotel looks lovely and it is just for one night. From your post will be out and about in daylight and as busy as it probably is in the evening, you will need to decide.

I stayed close to there (300 meters) for 4 nights. There were a lot of hawkers along the street in front of the station, and I felt uncomfortable on arrival. I soon realized there was nothing at all to be wary of. I had a great time in Naples, though it was February and there weren't a lot of tourists. Just be very careful crossing streets, especially at corners. Naples drivers seem to think traffic lights and traffic signs are just decorations. The only traffic violation I didn't see was going the wrong way on a one-way street.

That looks like a good hotel, Lola.
I’m also looking for a 2 night stay near the station, so will keep that one in mind.

I’ve realised (duh) that if you scroll in as close as you possibly can on the booking.com maps when looking for hotels and apartments, instead of the wider map view, that a much bigger amount of them become visible.
Why have I not been doing this all these years?!🤦🏼‍♀️
So many more choices!
