Napoli central station to sorrento

We will be 2adults and 2 children with 4 bags arriving at Napoli central railway station.
What are the ways in which we can reach sorrento ( antiche mura) as a private transfer is very expensive.
Had heard of a ferry , but is it walking distance from the railway station?

It's a walk from Sorrento station to your hotel, probably longer than you want. Just looking at the map, Antiche Mura looks like three-quarters of a mile to a mile from the station, maybe a little less. And the side streets, esp. right by the station, are cobblestoned, a real P.I.T.A. for bags.

We paid 95 Euro for private transport from Napoli Centrale to our B&B about a 1/4 mile from the Sorrento station. Seems to be the going rate. They charge it because they can. Your alternative is the Circumvesuviana commuter train, cheap but like a big-city subway, for better or worse. If crowded, not a lot of fun with bags.

Thanks, think private transportation, though expensive will be the best option

The walk from the Sorrento train station to Hotel Antiche Mura isn't bad at all. I stay at a hotel further from the station and it has never felt like a long or difficult walk with a roller bag in tow. I prefer to walk up to the main street behind the station and along there rather to walk down to and along busy Corso Italia. Check Google maps to see the upper street.

During high season (maybe May thru September), there's a privately-run express train from Naples to Sorrento called the Campagna Express. It's newer and much less crowded than the Circumvesuviana, but costs more and only runs about 4 times a day. Feedback from those who have used it is generally positive. If you can coordinate your arrival with the Campagna Express departures, that would be a good option. That said, I've taken the Circumvesuviana many times and haven't had any bad experiences.

Thanks will look into that special train as private taxi is too expensive at 125 euros

The train is called Campania Express and it's not private.

It's run by EAV the same company that runs the regular CircumVesuviana trains: https://goo.gl/ZdifMo

I'm not pointing this out for the sake of nerd-accuracy: you'll have to head to the same underground tracks used by all EAV trains and you'll find those tracks following the signs with the EAV/CircumVesuviana logo:

Being a public service, the Region must find the money to make it run. Since local commuters and taxpayers hate those trains... odds are that the "special trains" will run also in 2019, but it is not 100% certain.

As Frank says , Antiche Mura is a very short easy walk from Sorrento station . It would probably take as much time to load your bags and yourselves into a taxi than it will to walk it

Here are the suggestions from your hotel’s website:

By Train: Arrive at Naples Central Station. Change to the local train, the “Circumvesuviana”, which leaves for Sorrento every 20-30 minutes. The journey to Sorrento (last stop) takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. One of the stops on the line from Naples to Sorrento is Pompei Scavi, the nearest station to the archaeological site of Pompei. If requested, a car will pick you up at Naples Central and take you to Sorrento. The local train station is just 200 metres from the hotel.

The best “splurge” of my 2014 month in Italy was the taxi ride from Naples (from my B & B) direct to my hotel in Sorrento. And I was just one person. For 4 of you and 4 bags, I think it would be even better, saving time and hassle for each of you. Would enable you to check in and start exploring Sorrento all the sooner and fresher. If you want to experience the Circumvesuviana, do it without bags for a day trip to Pompeii etc.
