Naples via Munich

Will be flying from Newark (United) to Munich and transferring (Lufthansa) for a flight to Naples. Two hours between flights. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Munich airport and the logistics of changing planes there. Thanks!

munich airport is not very big but it's very efficient and cool. 2 hrs is plenty, you won't have problem.

Allen, In my experience, Munich Airport is fairly easy to navigate. Especially with two hours between flights, you shouldn't have any problems making your connecting flight. One interesting point to note is that Munich Airport has been named Central Europe's Best Airport in the World Airport Awards by the London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax. Munich took the sixth spot behind Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Beijing. The 2012 edition of the survey set a new record with 12 million respondents. I'll be heading back to Munich this fall, and have no concerns at all regarding the airport. Happy travels!

Allen, "So...with 2 hours, I would make sure you get right to passport control and in line for security." If it's anything like Frankfurt, that likely won't be a problem. I transited FRA a few years ago with exactly ONE HOUR between flights. I questioned the short time, but was told it was a "legal connection". As it turned out, I was through Passport control in about 15 or 20 minutes, and arrived at the gate for my next flight just as they started to board. With two hours, you shouldn't have a problem however as Eileen suggested, don't stop for coffee! One thing that helped in my situation, was that I was seated at the front of the aircraft (just behind first class), which meant that I was able to get off the flight quickly and was among the first in line going through Passport control.

The previous posters failed to mention that when you land you will have to go through passport control and back through security. So...with 2 hours, I would make sure you get right to passport control and in line for security. With plane loads of passengers doing the same thing you are, you will need the 2 hours to get from your gate to your new gate. If you are unfamiliar with the airport, plan on time for confusion finding your gate for Naples departure. you won't have to get luggage, that is transferred for you. If your seat is towards the back of the plane from Newark, plan on time to deplane, just to get into the terminal! I've had 1.5 hours from landing, security was slow and I almost missed my connecting flight. Don't delay, don't stop to shop or eat until you get to your gate for your Lufthansa flight

Big question - were these two legs on the same ticket, or booked separately? If on the same itinerary, then if her first plane is late, they can put her on the the next flight to Naples. If not, too bad if she misses her flight...
