Naples Train Station - Train Transfers

We are considering taking the train from Rome to Pompeii which will require us to change trains in Naples. On several of the schedules they only allow 10-15 minutes to transfer between the 2 trains. Not sure if this is really enough time given potential delays and/or a significant distance from 1 train to the next. Looking for advice. Thanks.

The time is adequate and even if you miss the train to Pompeii there will be anoteher within 30 mins or so. The train to Pompeii is basically a private commuter train.

As Frank says, if you miss one connection, another will be along shortly. The station for the train to Pompeii is just a flight of stairs from the train arrival from Rome. It's a matter of buying tickets for the Circumvesuviana train and then making your way to the right platform downstairs. They're very used to folks making that transfer in the Naples train station and very helpful. Be sure to get on the train for Pompeii Scavii and that ultimately goes to Sorrento.

We too are planning to take the train from Rome to Naples and then transfering to the Pompeii train and then after visiting Pompeii, continuing on to Sorrento. Are we able to buy a ticket to Sorrento, get off in Pompeii for a few hours and then back on again using the same ticket, or do we need 2 separate tickets, one to Pompeii and then one from Pompeii to Sorrento? Thanks!

Terry, since you're going to be in Sorrento, check into the ArteCard http://www.campaniaartecard.it/EN/Home.cfm Transportation in the region, as well as tourist sites, are covered. From the 2007 RS book "...consider getting the Campania ArteCard. This 25E three-day pass offers free entry to 2 sights of your choice (Pompeii & Herculaneum are the most expensive, so choose those as your freebies) adn 50% off all other sights covered by the card, including Naples Arch. Museum and Royal Palace, Paestum, etc. The card also covers Naples' Metro, buses, funiculars and airport bus, as well as the regional Circumvesuviana trains..."

We used this card and felt we saved a lot of money.
