Naples train station to Amalfi by bus

My head is spinning trying to figure out timetables and websites. Can someone 'take me by the hand' and talk me through the above journey? We shall arrive in Naples Centrale around 4.15pm. Ciao.Grazie.X

The most direct way to do this is to take a taxi from Naples Centrale to the Naples SITA bus station, from which you can then take a bus to Amalfi, with no further transfers along the way. Your only possible problem is that - according to the SITA website - the last bus to Amalfi departs Naples at 5:30 PM. Also, it does not operate on weekends. A more indirect & much slower way would be to change to the Circumvesuviana local train in Naples, take it to Sorrento, then catch a bus from Sorrento to Amalfi. The easiest & MOST direct way - also the most expensive - would be to hire a private driver. There are numerous private drivers that operate the Naples to Amalfi coast routes. The Sita bus schedule is here: http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campania/orarioCAMPANIA/QUADROXV.pdf

The train from Naples to Sorrento is about an hour for about 5 euro one way. Then from Sorrento to Amalfi is at least an hour by bus but can't remember how much it costs. Price out the driver and figure how much luggage you will have to see if expense and time are worth it.

The Circumvesuviana is a light rail metro type train and it is downstairs from your arrival at Centrale. Just follow the signs. The CV runs several lines, one of which terminates in Sorrento. Make sure you get on the train marked for Sorrento. The advantage of the CV is that it is cheap. The downside is that it makes about 30 stops along the way. The 30 mile trip to Sorrento takes an hour with magnificent views of graffiti covered housing projects. The SITA bus from Sorrento to Amalfi can be a hassle because so many of us tourists use it, which can mean that you might have to stand the whole way. If the cost is something you can cover, a driver from Centrale to Amalfi solves all problems. The Centrale-Sorrento portion will be a lot faster. The Sorrento-Amalfi drive will be faster too (unless you are behind a bus for long stretches) because the bus makes several stops along the way.

There is no way that a private driver taking you from Naples Centrale to Amalfi will go via Sorrento. He will take you down the autostrada toward Salerno, then over to Amalfi. If you look at a map of the area, this will be evident.

Well it looks like I got ripped off: and I tipped! But it was a nice ride and a pleasure to avoid the CV. Should I sue or go to www.camorra.refunds.naive.americans.com? Maybe I should count this fare as tuition paid for a lesson needed. Thanks for the info.

Why bother with the convoluted way of going to Naples, change station levels to catch another train, and change again in Sorrento, for a long bus ride to Amalfi? The easiest way is to continue by train perhaps the same one you're on from Napoli to Salerno, step outside the station, and grab the bus to Amalfi right there. A shorter ride. If you can't change your train to Naples and your arrival time, just buy a one-way ticket to Salerno in Napoli, or in advance.

Tom, thank you for your post...nearly there. However, we are actually going to Bomerano and need the timetable for that route...I believe its a Naples to Amalfi via Agerola. Failing that, how much would a taxi cost from Naples Centrale to Bomerano...anyone? A good guess would suffice. Thank you everyone for postings so far.

"we are actually going to Bomerano" Good to know. Better to know up front.
