Naples train

Hi all:
I have been making maps for our trip this summer, and I just realized I have been using the Napoli Centrale stop to catch our train to pompeii... I guess really I should be using the circumvesuviana station (is it called Porta Nolana?) And this is the one I get off at Pompeii Scavi I think....

I have the cruise ports book - looks like the circ. also stops at centrale - but it's easier just to pick it up at it's own station, right?

Thanks!!
Kim

The Circumvesuviana train stops at Garibaldi station after leaving Porta Nolana, Garibaldi is connected to Napoli Centrale and there are signs in the station giving walking directions.

The Circumvesuviana Piazza Garibaldi station is downstairs inside the Napoli Centrale station. Departures every half hour or so.

But I can use that Porta Nolana station right? I think that one is closer to the port...

Use the Alibus, stop is at the port, goes right to Napoli Centrale. Runs every 20-30 min. 3euro

You at Best to use the Centrale Station as you hop on point for the Circumvesuviana to the Pompeii Scavi stop. Get to the station and catch the Circumvesuviana downstairs to Pompeii.

Why is it better to get on the train at Centrale instead of porta nolana?

Kim,
You can certainly get on the Circumvesuviana train at Porta Nolana if you prefer. It's a small station, only about 350 meters from the train station everyone is referring you to...
Since you're probably coming by taxi, it won't make much difference in price to go to either station. At Napoli Centrale they are probably far more used to dealing with tourists and cruisers... so you might get better directions and assistance (certainly the cab drivers know how to get there). Porta Nolana is basically a "locals" stop, a very small station, and the starting point for the Circumvesuviana line. You might have to buy your tickets in a machine there...

If you're pretty good at Italian, then either works for you. If not, I'd stick to the one where you would be better understood... and I suppose that's why I, and many other folks, are suggesting Napoli Centrale.

Ron mentions all of the reasons I would suggest starting at Centrale. It's just simpler. Take a cab there and hop right on the train to Pompeii and you're done.
Have an awesome holiday.
