We will take the train from Florence to Naples and stay 2 nights in Sorrento. We would prefer to arrive by boat in Sorrento. If someone wouldn't mind telling me specifically - Napoli Centrale to the port directions - by bus #? Can I count on finding a hydrofoil available - we arrive at train station in Naples @ 16:10? Many thanks!

You can find the hydrofoil schedule here: http://www.alilauro.it/ Click on the British flag icon for English. The bus you want is the "Alibus" shuttle that runs every 20-30 minutes from the airport to the train station to the port. Here's its schedule: http://tinyurl.com/7amabgq

don't take the bus. grab a taxi in front of the train station. the dock is across street from castle nuovo. there are multiple hydro trips per day from naples to sorrento.

David - there are 5 in our party plus luggage, so I didn't think a taxi could handle us. Is the bus unsafe or what?

If you have that much luggage you will need to think of the bus or taxi to get you up the cliff in Sorrento. While it is definitely very near the centre of town it is straight up.
