I found out last night that our very nice flight home from italy got changed. We were scheduled to fly from Naples to London to Seattle on May 28th. Our layover in London was a little tight after a previous schedule change, but doable. We booked the flight last summer with American miles. When I checked our flight last night I saw that we were now scheduled for a long layover in Chicago between London and Seattle. I called American and was able to talk with someone who said that British Air wasn't releasing any seats for flights on that day that fly direct to Seattle from London. He said that all I can do is call back every few days and see if British Air has released any more seats. Is this typical? Or is it because now this one way flight that i had booked is over $2000 a seat? First world problems, but frustating nonetheless.

If BA did what it sounds like they did, I think a formal complaint is in order.
Ask AA if they will put you on their flt 155 LHR-SEA?
We had a similar situation last fall, when British Air "pulled" our direct flight tickets booked with Alaska Air miles and forced us to stay overnight in Newark. We had paid for upgraded tickets to get London to Seattle direct flight (after Venice to London 1st leg). About a month after early 2022 booking, BA notified us that our flight was changed to another. While we still had the upgraded seats LHR to La Guardia/Newark, to arrive about 8pm, the change made our flight "on" to Seattle be the following morning, departing Newark at 7am. Worse, we were given basic Economy seats, not the upgraded seats we'd paid for. After many calls to Alaska Air and BA, each saying the other would have to help us, we gave in to this less than desired revised trip plan.
We ultimately booked an airport hotel, got to the room about midnight, and left at 5am for the final leg, an unpleasant flight. Adding insult to injury: British Air has some of the highest seat reservation prices as well.
Lesson learned: I will try never again to book award tickets partnering with/using British Air.
