We have an international flight leaving Rome 1:00 pm mid June. If we take train from Naples Tuttle le stazoni train station at 7:30 am to Rome Termini station then to airport - will that give us lots of time to catch flight?
TUTTE LE STAZIONI is not the name of a train station in Naples, it simply means “All Stations”. The main station in Naples is Napoli Centrale. If you try to locate the Tutte le stazioni station, I’m afraid you’ll never make it to Rome.
Regarding your question you must make sure you are at the Fiumicino airport station no later than 10:30am for a 1pm flight to North America.
Schedules here:
www.trenitalia.com
Enter from NAPOLI CENTRALE
to: FIUMICINO AEROPORTO
start with early hours of the day, like 05:00, and see all, options that get you to Fiumicino at least 2,5 hours before flight departure.
If you leave at 7:30 you can be at FCO at 9:22, so that would work.
Ahem.. "Tutte le Stazioni" means "All (any) train stations" in Naples, in Italian. But I suspect you mean Napoli Centrale, the main train station in Naples. You want to be at Fiumicino Aerporto at least 3 hours before your flight. So the 7:30 or 7:40 Frecciarosso trains will work
There are no trains from Napoli Central to Fium. Airport June 13? Is it too soon to book?
I just tried Roberto’s link. On the screen where it shows no trains check the frecce box and it shows two options. Others may be able to chime in with additional and or better solutions.
Trains don't go direct from Naples to Fiumicino. You go to Roma Termini and change to the Leonardo Express to the airport. Since it is a Regionale, it is not shown on the schedule after June 9, but it goes every 15 minutes. It will show up on the schedule just before June 9.
Thank you. Would it be correct then to take the Napoli Central (which I assume is at the main train station) to Rome Termini then? And then take Leonardo express to Fiu... airport?
That is correct but the Leonard Express only runs every 30 minutes and takes about 30 minutes. So give yourself an hour in Termini in the event you just miss the train. You can buy the ticket on the platform. The train is on the far left as you face the front of the station from the inside.
here is an alternative
Just check the schedule for this week. Schedules for Regionali trains (such as the Leonardo Express) are not loaded yet for after June 9.
Thank you. So does the link you provided from Naples go right into the airport? or do you still have to take the Leonardo expressway?
As stated before, there are no trains direct to the Rome airport. You must take the Airport Express from Termini Station. Many visitors to Naples, Sorrento, and the farther away Amalfi Coast find that it is physically impossible to sleep in those locations the night before their flight home. The risk of missing the plane is just too high. What is your scheduled arrival time in Rome? Is it a Frecciarossa service?
What is your scheduled arrival time in Rome? Is it a Frecciarossa
service?
Tim, they haven't booked train tickets yet.
Regarding the bus (Fiumicino Express), the 7:45 doesn't arrive at the airport until 10:52, which only allows a little over 2 hours before your flight. That would personally be too tight for me. The only other bus that would get you there earlier departs at 5:15 AM. The buses also take over 3 hours, albeit from point to point.
Just IMHO, I'd go with a high-speed Frecciarossa train from Napoli Centrale to Roma Termini (takes about 1 hr/10 minutes) and the Leonardo Express train from there to the airport (takes about 30 minutes). That's about 1/2 the time you'd spend sitting on trains that you otherwise would sitting on a bus. Roberto and Sam posted the option I'd choose myself.
Editing to add: you might also look at Italo's trains from Centrale to Termini? They have "fast train" options as well that will work with your timing, get you there in 1 hr/10 minutes, and prices could be very competitive. From Termini, you'd then take the Leonardo Express, just as you would if taking a Trenitalia train. I wouldn't have any hesitation booking one of these trains either.
It can be done, both Trenitalia and Italo have non-stop trains leaving leaving Naples Centrale between 5:00 AM and 6:30 AM to Roma Termini. Both take about an hour and 10 minutes to Rome Termini. Add 30 minutes to buy your ticket on the platform and board the Leonardo Express you should be able to be at Fiumicino by 9:30 AM. Depending on your airline and terminal you should, in theory, be at the ticket counter by 10:00 AM.
You may want to consider leaving Naples earlier than 7:30 AM or stay in Rome or at the airport the night before your flight. You may be worn out by the time you board it.
Hi, our flight leaves Rome 1:15. It is an international flight so think we have to check in 2 hours before (?) so be in Fiu... airport 10:00 - 10:30? Is this possible?
Kathy, the point I was trying to make was that the departure time of the train is unimportant. It's the arrival at Termini that matters. I didn't even go into the risks of delays on non-Frecciarossa tickets, or the "latency" involved in public transportation for people who have never used public transit in their entire lives (?)
Thank you all, I think to be safe we will stay at the airport night before!
Sounds like you've sorted what works best for you. :O)
Tim, sorry if we've had a misunderstanding. Your question ("What is your scheduled arrival time in Rome? Is it a Frecciarossa service?") sounded as if you thought they'd already booked their train tickets Naples> Rome. Also, the OPs flight from Fiumicino is at the end of a fairly extensive trip (Naples/Amalfi Coast, Rome, Venice, Tuscany/ Florence, Sardinia, CT) so I'm thinking they should have more than passing acquaintance with public transit by that point, even though they'll have a car for part of it. :O)
But I do agree that it's often safest to stay near the airport of departure the evening before, especially if that flight is early in the day.
