naples to rome

We (6ppl) need to get from Naples to Rome airport for a 12:00pm flight. What is the best way to travel to assure we arrive in plenty of time.

Frecciarosso from Napoli Centrale at 7:00 to Roma Termini, then Leonardo Express to Fiumicino Aeroporto. That will get you there by 8:52.

With 6 people, maybe look at a private van transfer, but you will have to leave earlier.

You might give the day of the week and the month of the year. (Frecciarossa trains are much cheaper bought in advance.) Is your flight from Rome an international one, which would have a 3-hour check-in requirement? Are you flying Coach class? Are you actually starting from Naples, or are you in Sorrento or elsewhere?

Take an early train and have a car service take you from the train station to the airport. Book your train tickets in advance too so you don't have to concern yourself with purchasing them there.

We are all assuming you will depart from Rome's FCO airport and not from Ciampino.

Don't take a car service from Roma Termini. You'd be at the mercy of Rome's traffic. There is s reason if private drivers work almost only with foreign tourists... Even on a Saturday morning, no Roman would ever bet the cost of six tickets to US on Rome's notorious bottlenecks.

I'd take Trenitalia's FR #9610, departing to Roma Termini at 6:39. There are non-refundable, discounted tickets on sale now at 16.9 € per person.

The cost of train tickets from Roma Termini to FCO is fixed, 14 € per person. You can buy these after June 9 on www.trenitalia.com/en.html . Pick a train leaving from Roma Termini 15+ minutes after the scheduled arrival of the FR train from Naples.

If you travel with a smartphone\tablet, you could get tickets also on the Naples-Rome train using the complimentary on board wi-fi. Airport trains can't sell out.

Personally with six tickets, I'd never expect to make the trip the day of the flight. I'd head up to Rome on Friday evening. Consider what you'd do if there was a train strike. (Not an unusual occurrence). Leave Naples between 17:00-18:00 and spend a leisurly evening in Rome.

I'm with Gerri. This is not a risk I'd take with 6 people, and not even a risk I'd take with just my Other Half and myself. Voting for spending the last night in Rome, much closer to Fiumicino.
