Naples to Pompeii to Sorrento

We are arriving in Naples from Rome via Train. I understand how and where to find the Circumvesuviana train in Naples we plan to go to Pompeii from Naples and then from Pompeii to Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana. But my question has to do with train fares and what to purchase.

When purchasing train fare can I purchase fare from Naples to Sorrento, stop at Pompeii and then continue on with the same ticket? OR Do I need to purchase fare from Naples to Pompeii and then in Pompeii purchase fare from Pompeii to Sorrento?

You cannot purchase a ticket through to Sorrento, that train (Circumvesuviana) is owned by a different company. At Napoli Centrale, go to the Circumvesuviana ticket booth, buy and validate your ticket, then go downstairs to the platform. Trains depart every half hour, journey takes a little over an hour. Make sure your train is going to Sorrento, the track shares routes. There's an overhead board at the platform with time and destination of the approaching train. Sorrento is the last stop. If you want to stop at Pompeii Scavi to visit the ruins, there is a baggage storage facility.

1. One ticket from Naples to Sorrento (get off in Pompeii) and reboard with same ticket

OR

Oops, sorry, reading too fast. As I recall the Circumvesuviana ticket is good for a one-way journey, but has a time frame for completing the trip. The ticket is very inexpensive, if you buy one from Naples to Pompeii and another from Pompeii to Sorrento it's only a couple of euro more.
