My wife and I have to get from Naples to Palermo. Considering an overnight ferry in a cabin since less expensive than flying and we don't have one night hotel expense. However, I am concerned due to reviews I have read. For those who have taken the ferry and stayed in a cabin, can you please advise the line you were on and comment on cabin accommodations, public areas and overall experience. Should I not even consider the ferry and fly instead?
I have not taken the ferry to Sicily but I would have concerns about poss. rough seas, lower standards of hygiene to name a couple of items. My choice would be fly as I have done in years past. You will have. Wonderful time in Palermo. The sights are a jewel,
Check airlines like Ryan, Vueling, or Air Italia for flights. I often see flights for $40 area. I paid $70 for Zurich to Rome to Palermo. From Naples the flight is probably 45 minutes and will give you a half day extra of sightseeing.
Bad ferry reports. Flights on skyscanner.com.
Another option is overnight train from Naples to Palermo. Provides opportunity to ride on what is apparently the only ferry/train left worldwide. We did this route in the opposite direction, riding the day train (though we started in Taormina.). We rode second class and had a nice journey.
Check Volotea too. We flew Bari to Palermo on them, cheap, on time.
