We plan to take the train from Napoli Centrale to Milan Centrale station in May. Is the Trenitalia the best option or is Italo better for that trip? Does the train make lots of stops and would we need to change trains anywhere? We plan to take a regional train from Milan to Lake Como (Varenna) so need to be at Milano Centrale to make that connection, right?
Doug, for Trenitalia, one train, no train changes. The 4hr15 runs stop only in Rome-Termini. They don't even stop in Florence. The 4hr40min runs make 4 stops - Roma-Termini, Roma-Tiburtina, Firenze and Bologna. You can see these runs on www.trenitalia.com. Discounted fares from 39Euro.
For the Italo train, their runs mostly take about 4hrs40 minutes. Again, no train changes. Most runs have 4-5 stops including the final stop at Milano-Rogoredo according to their schedules. I only see one run during the day that has no stops in between. 4hrs14min. Discounted fares from 40Euro. No direct trains from Milano-Rogoredo to Varenna-Esino. You will change trains once at Milano-Centrale, or you can take other runs that change trains twice at Milano-Porta Garibaldi and Lecco. Direct trains are from Milano-Centrale.
Thanks Larry, we were a little concerned that a train change might be involved and your comment is reassuring.
