Naples to Ischia

We are considering a stay in Naples with a few days on Ischia. Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of Ischia and the ferry from Naples? Is the island as beautiful and interesting as it looks? Any advice welcome.

We went for the day from Naples.
The ferry was easy, and the island was beautiful.
We only went to the end where Castle Aragonese is, and spent most of our time there....well worth seeing.
You would obviously see much more if you stayed for a few nights.

In September of 2019, after enjoying the RS fabulous South Italy tour, my husband and I "recuperated" from tour activity by visiting Ischia for a few days. Some of our original info on the island came from this article - https://www.forbes.com/sites/catherinesabino/2018/08/05/will-ischia-be-italys-next-hot-destination-16-reasons-to-visit-now/?sh=6f1e72b45330. I almost don't want to share this with you as we feel like it's such a lovely place, we just want to keep it to ourselves - but here goes. You'll see, it's very tempting.

Hopping on the ferry from where the tour ended in Naples was easy; the boat ride was splendid (had great weather so we sat on deck). On the island we stayed on its east side about halfway between the port and the castello at the Hotel Ulisse, a small scale, old style resort hotel (not too pricey). Nice dining room (a good breakfast was included); their dinners were good, too. They had a very pleasant pool area (1 thermal, 1 regular) and access to its own beach. Ischia has lots of resorts (from high end to regular) all around the island featuring spas and thermal pools. It seems to be pretty well known to Italians and other Europeans, but not so many Americans.

We got around on the buses (for an easy orientation you can circumnavigate the island on the local bus) and on foot. We strolled around the castello (very picturesque) and the beaches and streets between it and the port; we hiked to the island's high point (Monte Epomeo, gorgeous views); we ate great seafood (but I also tried the rabbit ragu that is the traditional pasta dish on Ischia). It was lovely experience. Someday we'd like to go back. We highly recommend it.
