1. It takes either 2 hours and 31 min or 2 hours and 51 min (depending on which train). 2. Yes, there are lots of trains (mostly high speed). At least one train every hour and nearly all require no train change in Rome.

Elsa, A few points to add to Roberto's always excellent information..... For the trip from Naples to Florence, you'll be traveling from Napoli Centrale to Firenze Santa Maria Novella (often abbreviated as "SMN"). Note that many cities in Europe have more than one station, so it's important to specify when buying your tickets. The times mentioned above are for travel via high speed train. Reservations are compulsory and these are specific to each train and departure time (you can't just board any train, or you could face hefty fines). You have two choices on that route: > Trenitalia (Italian state railway) Freccia trains > Italo (new service) which also departs from and arrives at the same stations. You can save considerably by pre-purchasing tickets on-line (keeping in mind that will lock you into a particular train and departure time). You'll have to decide whether saving money or flexibility in travel times is the more important factor. Italo currently has prices listed at about €41 on that route (non changeable and non refundable). If you want the "full meal deal" Club tickets, they'll be considerably more money but with some "comfort perks" like Wi-Fi and TV. Some people here have reported a few "issues" when making on-line purchases on the Trenitalia website (but others have been successful). You might find it helpful to have a look at the excellent Ron In Rome website for lots of good information on train travel in Italy. Happy travels!
