Naples to FCO Rome airport

Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) taking the "Flumicino Express" bus from Naples to FCO Rome airport?

The website says it takes a little less than 3 hours from Naples to FCO. It is a lot less expensive than flying from Naples to FCO.

We will be spending the night near FCO airport to catch our early morning flight the next day. We are trying to figure out how to get from Naples to FCO.
Thank you in advance for your feedback!!!

Assuming that you are trying to catch a flight out of FCO, have you considered staying in Rome itself (not near the airport) on the night before the flight? It is easier to get from Naples to the center of Rome than it is from Naples to FCO.

When leaving FCO on an early morning flight, I always stay near the airport in Fiumincino. It's 10 minutes from the terminal and most hotels offer shuttle service.
You can take a train from Napoli Centrale to Roma Termini and then switch to the Leonardo Express to the airport. It takes a little over 2 hours. You can get schedules and prices at trenitalia.com.

We usually just stay in Rome and get a car service to take us to FCO. We could take a taxi, bus or metro into Termini and the Michelangelo Express to FCO, but it requires an incredible amount of walking to make each transfer. The car drops isn't the door--fast and efficient. The drive is not that far by car any way.
We try to avoid any early morning flights out of airports as most flights leaving for North America are leaving mid day. I don't want to just fly to another European airport where I'd be sitting 4 hours before catching a connecting non-stop flight home.

The OP says they are planning on spending the night near FCO. So she's asking how to get from Naples to FCO the evening before their flight, because their hotel is near FCO.

Susanah, no point in flying. Check the train schedules and prices on trenitalia.com and italotren.com. If you buy well in advance, looks like the cheapest tickets on the first are €16.90 and on the second, €9.90, each. The train takes about an hour. Then you would take the Leonardo Express to FCO. That's €14.00 each. The ride is 1/2 hour and the trains leave twice an hour (not necessarily every half hour though).

The express bus website shows advanced purchase price of €19.90 each and a journey of nearly 3 hours. I'd expect a tourist-class bus, comfortable ride and minimal loading/unloading luggage. 2 trains means lifting luggage on and off the train twice. Even if it takes 1/2-3/4 hour longer, I'd probably choose an early dinner in Naples and then the 7.45 pm bus, the only evening bus and presumably missing any rush hour traffic.

Hopefully someone who's taken the bus will come along and tell us what the ride was like. You may want to check on the tripadvisor forums for Rome and Naples as well. I think this service only about a year or two old.

We took the Fuimicino Express bus from FCO to Naples Centrale. We left about 15 minutes late from FCO, during evening rush hour. The entire journey took about 3 hrs 15 minutes.

The bus was clean and was comfortable. There's a large luggage area beneath the bus. I was not able to bring my 20 inches travel backpack on the bus, as there's not enough room overhead or the foot area. There's a power strip that people can use to charge their phones.

Considering the price (about 20 Euro per person, advance ticket), I would definitely do it again if we are planning to go back to Naples after landing in FCO. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
