Naples to do list

We are staying in Naples for 3 days. One day we are going to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii and then another we are going out to Capri. What are some of the good attractions in Naples, tours can't be too long I have a 5 and 15 year old with us. Is there a better part of the city to be able to get to everything by foot? Ty

The Archaeological Museum is a must-see. I saw it before Pompeii, which was good but some people suggest going after if possible so that you can visualize the environment of the artifacts. I think that might be a tiny bit better, but either way works.

The historic center (Spacanapoli) has some great churches with art - you can usually just pop in - and also interesting to just walk around. Look at Gesu Nuovo and that area. There are also some of highly recommended pizza restaurants around there (I can't name names, one of my family members has a gluten allergy). This area is covered on Rick Steves Naples walk - I'd definitely do that!

The waterfront area, especially around Castle Del'Ovo is calmer, nice views of Vesuvius and some good restaurants.

With two kids those ages, I would be sure to visit the street in the old part of Naples where there are shops making and selling figures for creche or nativity scenes: Via San Gregorio Armeno It has most of its shops open year-round and it is fascinating, like billions of little dollhouse or model train supplies. And moving parts, too, like a pizza-maker putting a pizza into the oven over and over. I estimate that 90% of the things for sale are not religious, they are just things from everyday life, like tiny Moka pots or tiny baskets of vegetables. Tiny bricks and tiny animals.

Here's the Tripadvisor link about it: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187785-d195422-r329891701-Via_San_Gregorio_Armeno-Naples_Province_of_Naples_Campania.html

Nearby is also the Doll Hospital, which is both fun and creepy: https://www.labruttafigura.com/2016/08/03/the-200-year-old-hospital-for-dolls-in-naples/

I would also think that both kids would enjoy the (somewhat creepy but amazing) sculptures in the Cappella Sanservero, also in this neighborhood. I was surprised just now to find that it is the #1 thing to do in Naples on Tripadvisor --- I would have thought the archeological museum was. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g187785-d195631-Reviews-Museo_Cappella_Sansevero-Naples_Province_of_Naples_Campania.html

I don't know about your 5 and 15 year old, but I am 64 and get wildly impatient on almost any tour. You can easily do your own walking tour along the Spaccanapoli --- all three places I mention are off of, on, or near that street. So are some great pizza places, like Sorbillo.
