What is the easiest way to get to Capri from Naples?

Do you need to have a car or book a cab?

A car or cab? To take you to the ferry dock?
You take ferries to Capri from the mainland including Naples.Look at Capri.net for ferry info.

If you're talking about getting from the train station to the ferry dock, then either the Alibus bus or cab will do. You do NOT want a car in Naples.

CURRENT ferry schedules for Napoli (these change depending on time of year):

I won't 100% swear to it but believe this is the schedule for Alibus to the port from Centrale:

Make your way to Molo Beverello in Naples. This is the major port that will take you to Capri. I would take the earliest over which is a 0700ish ferry. I bought the tickets online prior to us leaving the states. There will be conflicting information as to "if you need to buy tickets in advance" but from experience and just returning in May 2019, we did see some of the ferries fill up and sell out the same day. We used SNAV and Alilauro and both online process was easy.
