At the conclusion of our RS South Italy Tour on Saturday, May 6, we plan to travel (about an hour) to San Leucio del Sannio, a village 6km south of Benevento from which my grandfather emigrated. We plan to fly back to the US from Naples on Monday, May 8 at 10:00 AM. Is it too risky to stay the night of May 7 in our B&B in San Leuccio and leave early enough to get to our flight? Or should we return to Naples on May 7 and try to stay somewhere near the airport that night?
Also, I don't mind renting a car, but that adds time and hassle at both ends. Does it seem a bus would be easier? I'd appreciate any advice.
According to Rome2Rio it would take you an hour and 15 minutes to go from Benevento to Naples in a taxi and an hour and a half by bus. If it was me, I would spend that last night in Naples and take a taxi or the bus to the airport in the morning which only takes about 10 minutes as the airport is close to the city.
I would second staying in Naples.
Unless you hire a private driver you trust and set out at 6:00 I think there is too much that can go wrong for a 10:00am flight. Following the 2 hours early rule you'd need to be there by 8:00 so 6:00 is the latest I would leave by car and that means even earlier by bus if there is one. And getting up early enough to be ready and looking for bus at 5:30am sounds like an awful way to end a vacation.
For all that expense, worry and hassle I'd just opt to take a leisurely trip to Naples the afternoon before and make the quick trip to the airport in the morning after a last espresso and pastry,
My $.02, have a great trip,
