We dock in Naples from 7:00 in morning till 7:00 at night. We would like to do the Amalfi Coast on our own without paying for an expensive tour and we would like to go to Pompeii. Is this doable and if so please tell the details of transportation.

Came back a few weeks ago from Italy. We went on the local train in Naples and stopped at Pompeii. It was fantastic and we are still talking about it. It is a huge place so be prepared to walk. The local train did not cost much and from Pompelli we went to Sorrento where we stayed for 5 days.While we were there we went to Positano, Amalfi Coast which we took a boat over and then we found Pasquale-22 taxi to take us around the whole place. We went all the way to the top. The food tasted so good and the sites were beautiful. If we did not have Pasquale we would not have seen places where people do not go see. It was worth the 130 euro for four people. We had him for 5 hours but he will show you around for less hours but I would say take him all day he is definitly worth it and he explained everything. Thank you very much for responding to my question. Thanks for the websites to go to. What I am hoping is that we do some fun thinks in the 12 hours we have, but then get back to the area to spend some real time in a couple of years.
