Naples: San Gregorio Armeno, San Domenico Maggiore

We arrive in Naples at 15:00, the plan is to do some sightseeing that evening and then see Pompeii, Herculaneum, and/or Mount Vesuvius the next day.

I saw on Tripadvisor lots of reviews for San Gregorio Armeno, I believe it's located near San Domenico Maggiore, but it didn't say much about it. It had a link to a website, but that didn't really tell me much either. Can anybody tell me more about it? Are the street vendors there everyday? Till what time? How can I visit the church? We plan on just taking our backpack suitcase with us, is it risky (should I rent a locker at the train station?)

Thank you all for your help.

No lockers at the train station but you can leave your main luggage at the Napoli train station staffed deposito baggagli (a door or two away from the police station) and just take what you need for an overnight or two (sounds like that is your plan) with you.

Are you staying in Napoli? If you arrive at 1500 (by train or plane?), you should be able to check in and leave all your luggage there.

In addition to the church of San Gregorio Armeno, the street via San Gregorio Armeno is known for its presepio displays and shops. The church's website may have opening hours listed, but I would have your hotel check on that - sometimes churches are closed rather unexpectedly unless a Mass is scheduled.

The luggage deposit is at the end of a long wing of Napoli Centrale train station. I remember it being very quiet. A policeman in the main part of the station told me how to find it. It is staffed by an Attendant who charges six Euro for each bag you leave there. And you have to show your Passports. This was the procedure a year ago. He may have said a time limit on that charge, but I don't recall now if that was the case. He was professional, the room was clean and large and well used by travelers.
