We will be visiting Naples via a princess cruise and would like any feedback on whether it is possible to do pompeii and Capri while in port. We will be in Naples for 10 hours.
You could do either. From the port you can take a boat to Capri, or you can take a cab to the train station and go to Pompeii. I'd do Pompeii, it is fascinating.
It would be a real rush job to try to see both places in the space of 10 hours. I've been to both, and IMO Pompeii requires at least 3-4 hours and Capri the better part of a day.
Been to both. Pick one. Someone suggested three or four hours for Pompeii. That is a quick hit. You could easily spend six hours at Pompeii. It is massive. Tram 1 will take you to the train station from the harbor. Much cheaper than the taxi which will want an arm or two for the couple mile trip to the station.
Thank you very much. We will be flying in to Rome and staying 5 days on land prior to going onboard the cruise. Perhaps we can take a day trip and see Pompeii so that when the cruise makes a stop in Naples we can truly enjoy Capri. Any comments?
That is more than a reasonable possibility but it makes for a long day from Rome.
