Naples Port - BUS to pompeii?

Hi all:
I have read a few things about taking a SITA bus (don't really know what that is) from the Port in Naples to Pompeii, vs. taking the train (since the train station is kind of far from port).

But a few things I read lead me to believe that maybe this isn't available any more? No bus option is given in Rick's cruise ports book...

Wondering if we should just do the Taxi option.... kids 9 and 11 in tow, might be worth it to save the hassle...

Anyone have any insight?
Thanks!

An easy and cheap way to do this is to take the shuttle bus (called the Alibus) from the port to Naples central train station. At the train station, board the local "Circumvesuviana" train which will take you right to Pompeii's main entrance. The stop is called "Pompei Scavi". Both the Alibus and the Circumvesuviana run all day long. The Alibus stop at the port is next to the ferry ticket booths. Your kids might be interested to know that there's a McDonald's near the Central train station bus stop.

We used the Curreri bus service to travel between the Naples airport and the Pompeii Scavi. It might be worth contacting them to see if they have a bus from the port. I know that they also provide private shuttles. Here is a link..http://www.curreriviaggi.it , you will notice that there isn't much to the website. It does have an email address.
We paid 8€ one way and we were very pleased with the service. Taking that Alibus and then the circumvesuviana is a very good option too. Getting to Pompeii on the train is very simple.

The Curreri buses are a great option from the Naples airport, but they don't go to the ferry port.

The Curreri buses don't go to the Naples train station either. But, they do go to Pompei and Sorrento from the Naples airport. The SITAsud buses run from Sorrento to Amalfi and from Salerno to Amalfi.

Yes it was a SITA bus that I saw and it goes directly to Pompei Scavi - I found a SITA website but no English and I'm having a hard time deciphering it. And on some pages where it referenced (various people's comments and such) the links they give are dead.

Is SITA just the pubic transport system? I don't think so - they said it is an air conditioned sort of tour bus...

From the Varco Immacolatella near the Beverello pier the Sita buses to Pompei-Scafati. The stop you need is Porta Marina, not far from the excavations.

Thank you! I think I have the schedule now - weird the bus seems to run every 1/2 hour, except from 8-10am. If we miss the 8am (which we likely will unless we are quick off the ship), next one not until 10. But I will check again when we get closer. We can always just decide when we get there - I just like having the plan in place.

Thanks for the help!
