Hi. We arrive into Naples June 10 and from there plan to do Capri/Pompeii on 11th, then night in Naples and from Naples to Positano and Amalfi on 12th - (returning back to Naples each evening). We have an international flight leaving Rome 1:00 pm on 13th. Will the excursions on 11th and 12th be too rushed to enjoy even if we start early? (I hear they are busy places) . What time would we have to catch a train to from Naples to get to Rome 2-3 hrs before our flight (be at Rome Flumicino airport about 10:00 am I guess)? If this plan will be too rushed maybe we should re-think and go somewhere else from Cinq Terre on June 10, as I don’t want to feel rushed and stressed. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!
Hey croney
Wow you need to stop, slow down and enjoy. It’s like an amazing race for you to check off a bucket list. Going during high season, packed with maddening crowds, hot, and stress does not do good in that situation. Plus taking train day of your flight, no way. Never know what could stall you, be in Rome day before. This is my opinion only, like to soak in what I see. Have a glass of lemonicello, enjoy and relax. Happy travels
Aloha
I wouldn't attempt your itinerary....when do you actually have time to see what's in Naples? By the way, Naples itself has some amazing stuff. I would not try to do Capri and Pompeii in one day either, since either one takes up more than half a day and you're dependent on the ferry schedule in Capri. I would cut down your list and just do the most important 2 things over two days.
If you don't want to feel rushed and stressed, it isn't doable to visit Capri and Pompeii in one day. You'll wind up exhausted and exasperated. Just got back from a week in the area. The crowds and traffic will be considerable and the weather will be hot. There is a lot to see in Naples itself. A charming city center with lots of small shops and restaurants, churches and the Archaeological Museum. If you are arriving in the morning, maybe stroll the city center, visit some churches and the Archaeological Museum and find a nice restaurant, There are nice views along the Bay of Naples, but that is a walk from the historic center. Plenty of choices there. The next day you could visit Pompeii. Plan on hours in the car for the roundtrip to the Amalfi Coast. If you are taking a bus tour, sit on the right side, or you won't see much of the coast.
You can take a ferry to Capri from Naples. I can't imagine how you would do Pompeii on the same day. You can take the train from Naples to Pompeii but if you were trying to do both you would have to get back from Capri and get to the train station from where the ferries dock.
We did each as a day trip but on separate days. We got to Pompeii first thing, took a tour, had lunch, and wandered around for a couple more hours.
You might be able to go to Amalfi and Positano in a day if you go on a tour but still you would spend more time traveling than anything else. To go on your own you would take the train or ferry to Sorrento and then a bus to Amalfi. The train goes to Sorrento from Naples and there is also a ferry also which is what we took. The ferry was close to where we were staying and we had visions of enjoying the view but it is enclosed so more like an airplane and you dock below the town and then have to take a bus up to the town. You buy bus tickets at the train station and from there you have to take a bus to Amalfi which passes by Positano. It is quite a bit to try to do in one day from Naples as I think the travel time from Naples to Amalfi alone would be half a day.
I would go to Pompeii and Capri as separate day trips from Naples. I would save the Amalfi Coast for another time when you are able to enjoy it.
