Naples/Pompeii

We are traveling to Pompeii from Rome by train. We should be finished with our tour of Pompeii around 1500 Our train back to Rome leaves at 1840. After arriving back in Naples we plan on walking to Da Michele for pizza and beer before our train departs. Is it safe to walk from the station to the pizzeria? Do you think we have time to do this? We have purchased our train tickets already so the departure time is not flexible. Thanks in advance.

Safe? Of course! But as always be aware of your surroundings and like your mother said: don't talk to strangers who come up to you uninvited.

It's safe but you'd better check if the pizzeria is open. Many restaurants and pizzerie close between lunch and dinner (basically between about 2:30pm and about 7 or 7:30pm)

Or you could grab a sandwich and spend the time at the National Archaeology Museum where most of the art work from Pompeii resides.

I second the museum suggestion. Could taxi to the museum in about 10 minutes. Spend an hour and get back with plenty of time to spare.

We walked from the train station all the way to the museum. It wasn't unsafe but on some streets it did feel like we were being watched. Naples isn't as clean and organized as the northern cities so it seems a little seedy by comparison. Not unsafe though.

Unless it's a Tuesday -- museum closed, as I found out when planning a trip from Naples airport. Will try for the return Sorrento>Naples>Rome a few days later.

Thanks to everyone who responded. We will be in Naples/Pompeii on Tuesday so we won't be able to visit the Museum. We will just have to make a return visit.
