Hello, I am looking for suggestions of what area or hotel to stay in Naples for our last 2 nights in Italy. We want to see ruins of Pompeii on our last day from wherever we stay in Naples then the next day is a very early morning flight home to US. Is it a bad idea to stay for 2 nights in a hotel right at the airport and do sightseeing on the one day or are there some areas close enough to airport we can do both? I found one 15 minutes from airport but then it sold out. Thanks!

Downtown to the airport in early morning is just a 15 minute taxi ride, so no need to stay near airport. Hotel Piazza Bellini is nice but may be the one sold out!

Month of year? Pompeii is a substantial time commitment. You will have little time to enter any attractions in Naples while they are open, that day. Just FYI. You should locate and download the fixed-rate taxi sheet from the Naples government. The airport is easy to get to, but I would choose a real downtown hotel (not a virtual hotel, I mean) that has taxi partners who can be relied up to show up at the appointed hour.
I suggest you make a list of things you want to, and can, do in Naples, and see if there is a hotel that makes that easier to do. There are plenty of hotels in Naples.
